MARINE WINCHES OVERVIEW

Marine winches are among the most critical pieces of deck machinery on any vessel or offshore facility. They are mechanical devices used to handle mooring lines, anchor chains, towing cables, cargo ropes, and other heavy loads with controlled tension.

At WISELINK Maritime, we leverage over 10 years of maritime expertise to deliver winching systems that prioritize power, control, and durability.

MOORING WINCH

Primary Function: Securing vessels to docks or terminals by handling mooring lines. Modern mooring winches often feature automatic constant tension to maintain line tension as tides and vessel loading change.

  • Rated pull (1st layer): 50 – 300 kN
  • Holding load: 3× rated pull (typically 150~ 900 kN)
  • Rope speed: 10~20 m/min
  • Drum capacity: 150~ 500 m (wire rope or synthetic rope)
  • Drive options: Electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic

ANCHOR WINCH / WINDLASS

Primary Function: Deploying and retrieving the anchor and anchor chain. The anchor windlass is specifically designed with a chain wheel (gypsy) that engages the chain links.

  • Working load (chain wheel): 13~68 kN (AM2 grade chain)
  • Overload pul: 1.5× working load
  • Holding load (brake) : 80% of chain breaking strength
  • Nominal speed: 9 m/min (typically)
  • Chain diameter capacity : 17.5 mm~40 mm

TOWING WINCH

Primary Function: Towing other vessels, barges, or floating structures. Towing winches feature automatic rendering (pay-out under tension) and constant tension capabilities for safe towing operations.

  • Rated pull (1st layer): 100~2,000 kN
  • Holding load: 3× rated pull
  • Rope speed: 5~15 m/min
  • Drum capacity: 500 – 2,000 m (wire rope)
  • Drive options: Hydraulic (primary), electric (secondary)
